WordPress security tips: Why you should stay up-to-date

WordPress is an extremely powerful CMS, with an actively developed community. This isn’t news. It’s universal appeal and ubiquity have made it extremely popular both for experienced developers and novice web publishers alike. The flip side to this is that it’s also an easy and plentiful target for hackers. While WordPress is always evolving and doing everything their power to close security holes, it’s not bulletproof.

Furthermore, responsible plugin developers should be following suit and updating their code to stay current with security threats. Hackers can find backdoors in your code and cause all kinds of problems including JavaScript injections, MySQL injections, iFrame injections, malware distribution or take down your site in search of fame.

I recently helped The Arts Initiative launch their new site. The Arts Initiative is a group of artists, curators, developers and philanthropists who are dedicated to curating museum-quality art in public venues. Their first project is The Fashion Outlets of Chicago featuring works by Daniel Arsham, Bhakti Baxter, Jim Drain, Friends With You, Cody Hudson, Alvaro Ilizarbe, Andrew Nigon, Kenton Parker, Bert Rodriguez, Jen Stark and Austyn Weiner – curated by Primary Projects.
